Shame is a bad thing, but a wound is worse.
La Tavola Ritonda
These Passions relate to a character’s reaction to risk and danger.
A Gallant character acts boldly despite the danger - which is sometimes also called courageous, valorous or brave, but may also be seen as reckless and rash1.
In contrast, a Prudent character is cautious and reserved - risking little when it can be avoided. These characters may be called wary or wise when the prudence is favored, but cowardly, timid and recreant when it seems ill.
