And running one against the other as swiftly as if they had flown in the air, they met and smote each other so sorely that their spears broke into pieces which sprang about them. William Caxton, The Recueil of the Histories of Troy

To be Strong is to be mighty, to act forcefully and with prowess.

  • In thought and word, it is a direct and vigorous voice or mind.
  • In act and deed, it is physically athletic and powerful.
  • In craft, it can be useful when the medium needs a direct approach or great force1, but is not great with finesse or subtlety.
  • It is the most obvious reputation for the pursuit of violence. Many men think they can make some other route to victory, but in the end it is very hard to outsmart or outrun or outlast a sword.

Many people who are physically strong are also Spry or Stalwart - but these are three different kinds of athleticism, and more importantly three different uses of it.

Strength is most worthy of the reputations because it is the one which secures all the others.
