Falling frost

The wind-wail of winterThe Wanderer
This might be the subject of the next post
Winter’s conceptually simple. It’s part of the rhythms of the campaign. One adventure, one winter. This period is a kind of “Downtime” system - where you get to advance, tally up your successes, modify your characters, etc.
That means it’s a mechanically rich concept, though. King Arthur Pendragon has dozens of steps, rules and tables to roll on, even before you get to all the fan rules tweaking and fleshing out those steps (see here, for a summary). I’m aiming for a slightly less “simulationist” approach (not a complete abrogation of tables, by a long shot; but not one where you’re tracking every family member, and thus needing to have carefully balanced tables that evolve them in reasonable ways).
Partially that’s because building all that rich content is hard. Partially because I want to try other things with it.
I’d love a deterministic winter phase (i.e. no rolling) almost like a point-buy… but that’s a subject for a later post.
