On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot. It is a silly place.

A 1975 comedy movie that probably doesn’t need introduction. While it’s parodical sketch comedy, it’s also pretty decently researched and in discourse with the rest of the canon. In fact, like A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court it makes its own genre-division in the canon. You can’t easily reference its particular takes on the legend and mix it into different genres (aside from small easter eggs), but with a spinoff musical and wide influence in broader culture - it has a seat among other more serious works when talking about influential canons.

In tabletop rpgs, the movie also has another role. It’s a “rule” of roleplaying groups that players will end up referencing the movie at some point - as part of a broader point that groups will always bend a little bit towards silly references in otherwise serious tones.

This is perhaps a bigger problem in Pendragon because of its subject matter and some reference is inevitable.
