Oh yes, Gawain, you’ll lead him back by the reins whether he likes it or not, of course you will – if victory’s handed to you on a plate! You’ve taken loads of prisoners like that! When the knight’s worn out and has fought long enough, then the valiant champion asks permission to try his hand – and of course he goes and triumphs! Oh, Gawain, you’re no fool! There’s plenty to learn from you – a hundred curses on me if there’s not!
Chrétien of Troyes, Perceval
In some rolls you may have an advantage when:
- You can invoke something you have or are (or some companion who is with you) to your benefit.
- You are being helped by another player’s character.
- You specially prepared for this situation.
- Something else about the situation favors you1.
Each may grant you either 1 or 2 Heroic Dice to your Dice Pool, and you may at most add 2 dice from all sources of advantage2.
Footnotes
-
As Sun Tzu said, “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war”; take advantage of the environment, your relative positioning (the classic “I have the high ground”), the temperament of your opposition, or whatever else you have in what types of actions you choose to pursue. ↩

It’s not that you can’t have more things that are in your favor, but there’s diminishing returns. ↩
